T.V.VERSION
(With special thanks to Jim Avey who provided me the TV-version)
The TV-version of THE TOWERING INFERNO is longer. How is that possible ? Well, some butcher at the editing table added cut scenes but also some incredible bad stuff that should have been on the editingroom floor forever. The cut scenes provide a bit extra info and I must say it's fun to see them once, but I agree not to put them in the final movie. But some stuff is so terrible, they should hang the responsible editor on the highest tree !
I sometimes hear that there's a TV-version that, besides the extra stuff, also has cuts (like people on fire). I haven't got any info on that, and frankly, I don't even wanna know about it !
I have written out all the extra stuff here. It's all on the new Special Edition DVD, except for one scene. This one is very short on the dvd, but I have the full length and you really miss something:
Bigelow and Duncan: Small conversation after Doug and Will left the office. This cut scene isn't on the new dvd in its full length. And the full-cut-scene, however short, takes blame off Duncan and puts it on Bigelow! This scene can only be seen by VIP-members, sorry. Why ? Read all about it.
All other cut scenes:
- Astaire and
Jones: After Claiborne (Astaire) is seen entering by escalator,
a scene is added in which he meets up with Miss Mueller.
- Conversation
about G-12's: Before we see a mechanic enter the basement of the
building, we see and hear more of his telephone conversation (about
G-12's ?!).
- Newman and
Dunaway: Faye, in sexy lingerie, with Paul in bed, talking more
about Paul's future plans.
- Dan Bigelow
at work: The scissors arrive and busy Dan arranges the "Romanee
Contie 1929".
-
- Harlee picks
up Lisolette: A few more words, that's all.
- Holden and
Dunaway: At the openingceremony Duncan has a private talk with
Susan.
- The Mayor's
speech: Memorable words (not) at the openingceremony.
- Going to the
scenic elevator: Some talking between Duncan, the Mayor and the
Senator, before they enter the scenic elevator + an added 5 seconds
joke (anyone laughed?).
- Maureen McGovern:
30 seconds more of her, especially for the fans !
- Dunaway and
Blakely: Typical female chit-chat at the party.
- Reception
area on fire: A nice fire-shot, some strange men and an incredible
full minute of stupid, dark firetrucks-footage.
- Frightened
Angela: Angela is scared to go on Lisolette's back.
- Holden and
Blakely: Susan thanks her father for her happy childhood (sob, sob).
- Firemen in
action: One of the worst shots added, including 50 seconds of
very fake heart resuscitation.
- More shadowpuppets:
By Jennifer Jones and the children.
- Newman in
action: Silly shot of Newman, doing something more to the scenic
elevator's gravity brake.
Did I miss something ? I hope not, but if I did: Tell me !
