Yes, they did win some oscars. Out of 8 nominations they got only 3 "golden boys".
But they got some Golden Globes too, 3 out of 5.

OSCAR NOMINATIONS

A statue for that lame song "We may never write songs like this again" is a waste
(bad joke, I'm sorry). I wish they would skip that category once and for
all. These are FILM prizes, not (pop)song awards. The other two are well
deserved. What a pity that we missed "Best Picture" ! And what about John
Willliams' score. It's one of my favorites !!! And yes, I still love to
watch the Art/Set Decoration (What was it with the Seventies and orange
?!). And reading Bill
Abbott's story I think he at least deserved a nomination too.
It's remarkable that 4 out of 5 lost statues were given to one single movie: The Godfather II, which was the big winner of 1974.
Only Best Sound was won by another picture, another disastermovie: "Earthquake", because of that Sensurround-thing. Only a
few films were made with that novelty and we've never heard from it again. But let's be honest: with your eyes closed, only
listening to the award-winning sound, Earthquake might be entertaining.....
GOLDEN GLOBES
- Best Supporting Actor: Fred Astaire
- Most Promising Newcomer-female: Susan Flannery
GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATIONS
- Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Jones
- Best Writing, Screenplay: Stirling Silliphant
- Best Music, Original Song: "We may never love like this again" by Al Kasha, Joel Hirschhorn
Thank God Fred Astaire got a Globe, because he missed out at
the oscars. |
